You have nobody to Blame but yourself, Take ownership
With life there’s always rewards and consequences to your actions. Having ownership takes time, knowledge, dedication, and consistency. Even though we may not have understood this concept at a young age, it was always there. Do you remember as a kid looking up to your older sibling and wanting to be just like them? Yes me too, I remember when my older sister started doing gymnastics class, and I wanted to do all the cool tricks just like her. I would go with my mom to her classes, and just sit there and watch so closely. I would practice all the moves in the mirror to myself repeatedly. After learning the moves, and practicing consistently I was able to do the tricks just like her. I didn't realize what commitment meant, but it showed me having skill, determination and accountability can get you positive results.
However, if it weren’t for the mistakes, we wouldn’t know how to take ownership for ourselves. I can think back at many time’s in life, where I was super disappointed in myself for not holding myself accountable. You get that instant frustration and sadness when the outcomes didn’t go your way. But then you have to ask yourself, did I give it my all? Did I dedicate my time? Did I truly try to learn how to be better? Well if no, then you didn’t take ownership of your life. It’s easy to make excuses, when life kicks you down. Trust me I’ve been there myself, it takes complete responsibility and strength to fulfill ownership. It doesn’t come over night, but if you want something in life, there has to be someone determined to take action, to get positive results. When you take ownership, you have the power in your hands.

Hi Salina, what a gratifying yet bold post! Just like you I remember looking up to my older siblings too. I have a big family so I can always change my mind about the other. Haha, but I agree, we have to learn from your mistakes and we might make the same mistakes more than once, but we're only human, we make mistakes, but you just keep going. Don't ever slow down.
ReplyDeleteI can totally identify with this one sentence you wrote " if it weren’t for the mistakes, we wouldn’t know how to take ownership for ourselves." Mistakes are just part of human nature and sometimes is hard to learn from them at first but eventually as we control and take ownership of our life, we are able to learn and move forward.
ReplyDeleteHi Salina, this is a great post and I like how you shared your own experience from your childhood. It is so easy to make excuses rather than using the things that detour us in life as a lesson and for motivation, I think this a universal life skill that never stops growing as we evolve.
